Diet Recall & Diet Chart: Two AI Prompts You Can Use Tonight

If you were at one of Dr. Vishnu Girish’s talks on fatty liver disease (MASLD), you may have seen these two prompts on the screen.

They are simple enough to use tonight, on your own phone, with whichever AI chat app you already have. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini all work fine.

A quick note before you start.

These prompts are not a replacement for medical advice. Think of them as a mirror, a way to look honestly at what you eat before you sit down with a doctor or a dietitian.

Prompt 1: Your Honest 24-Hour Diet Recall

Copy the text below, paste it into your AI chat app, and answer honestly. It takes about two minutes.

“I’ll describe everything I ate and drank in the last 24 hours, no editing. Turn it into a simple table, flag anything ultra-processed, fried, or sugary, and give me ONE realistic swap for tomorrow. No lectures. Give me a rough estimate of calories and macros for each meal, and label it clearly as an estimate, not an exact figure. Ask me if that’s everything before you finalise the table.”

Prompt 2: Build Your Own Liver-Friendly Diet Chart – Fill in the details

This one builds you a starting diet chart. Fill in your own details in the brackets before you send it.

“Build me a realistic 7-day Indian [regional preference, e.g. Kerala/Tamil/North Indian], Mediterranean-style diet chart. I’m [age], [sex], [weight]kg, [height]cm tall, [veg/non-veg], [diabetic/pre-diabetic/neither], and eat out about [X] times a week. I work out [0/1/2/3/4/5] times a week and my work is [sedentary/mild activity/moderate activity]. My doctor has advised a target of [state your advised calorie and protein target, or write ‘none given’]. If I’ve given you a specific advised target, use that exact number as my calorie and protein goal and do not recalculate it. If I haven’t, calculate my TDEE from the details above and build around a 500 Kcal daily deficit with 1g protein per kg body weight. Keep carbs moderate and prioritise whole grains, minimise white rice and fried snacks. Give me 3 swaps I’ll actually keep.”

“Everyone under-reports what they eat, even to a chatbot. The point of this exercise is not to be perfect. It is to notice.”
